CHERRY VALLEY CELEBRATES DOUBLE SUCCESS AT INDUSTRY MARKETING AWARDS

Cherry Valley, the UK’s largest duck manufacturer, is celebrating after winning two accolades at this year’s Pig and Poultry Marketing Awards.

The company picked up the Brand Identity Award, in recognition of the Cherry Valley brand and also the company’s foodservice brand, Farm Fresh which launched earlier this year. The Award for Innovation was presented to Cherry Valley for its unique veranda system developed to produce a higher welfare range of duck products.

Held at the London Haymarket Hotel on Thursday 14th May, the Pig and Poultry Marketing Awards are run by trade publications Pig and Poultry Marketing and Farm Business.

The Brand Identity Award, sponsored by 42 Communications, recognises brand strategies which have hit the mark in terms of overall identity and target audience communication. Cherry Valley was commended as an example of a well-targeted brand meeting customer demand, from its strong brand visuals to its innovative product solutions.

The Award for Innovation, sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health, recognises innovation in the food chain and the contribution this has made to the business. Cherry Valley’s higher welfare system is an innovation which incorporates the use of verandas, giving the ducks access to natural daylight and purpose-built pools for bathing. The company firmly believes that its customers deserve the best quality produce which comes from the best possible welfare standards.

Eric Jagger, sales and marketing director at Cherry Valley, said: “Our customers are key and we pride ourselves on constantly striving to better our practices and products to meet and exceed their demands. We are delighted to be recognised for our innovative ‘higher welfare’ veranda system which we developed to achieve the highest standards of quality.

“I believe the Cherry Valley brand, and more recently Farm Fresh have become synonymous with good quality in the trade and we are thrilled to see this reflected in these awards.”

Cherry Valley was also shortlisted for the Health and Hygiene Award.

Exhibition Attendance

Poultry Focus Asia 2008 - The 3rd Poultry Focus Asia conference was held in Bangkok over the 3rd to the 5th of March 2008. The meeting was well attended by poultry people from all over the world, Papers covered a wide range of chicken and duck issues, updates from primary breeders on approaches to husbandry matters, and the growing promise held by the possibility of 'genomic selection' for 'difficult or expensive to measure' traits.

Senior Geneticist David Martin presented a paper on behalf of Chief Geneticist Tony Hall. The paper, entitled 'Aspects of Improvement in Duck Performance', touched on the growth of Pekin duck meat industries, went on to the fundamentals of duck primary programmes with regard to structure, pedigree-ing and selection objectives, and the relative importance of feed efficiency. The paper discussed the very good improvements in FCR and breast meat deposition in the CVF commercial operation over the last twelve years, selection for aspects of duck robustness, future possibilities in the area of genomic selection, and some essential elements of good duck husbandry against a shifting 'housing type' profile and the AI threat.

Livestock Food Promotion Exhibition - Young Kwon, Cherry Valley's agent for South Korea, recently attended The Livestock Food Promotion Exhibition at the COEX Exhibition Centre, Seoul. The exhibition proved successful with much interest being shown in both Cherry Valley's duck and The Korean Duck Association, whose members have been very successful in developing the Korean market.

VIV China 2007- Cherry Valley Farms enjoyed another successful VIV China Show at the International Exhibition Centre in Beijing. An important biannual event for the dynamic China poultry industry. During the show, Richard Bird and Dr. Xinjian Yan met with most major local duck producers as well as many from other countries in the Asia Pacific region. The local producers are enjoying a newly found confidence after a difficult trading year caused by the AI crisis. The duck market is enjoying an unprecedented rate of recovery and all the sections of the industry are benefiting from this upwards trend of development.

VIV Asia 2007 - Cherry Valley recently exhibited at the 2007 VIV Asia Exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand. Richard Bird and Malcolm Stimpson were assisted by Dr Wiebke Oellrich, Cherry Valley’s Customer Support Manager and Mr Boh Kee Yook, who is responsible for Cherry valley’s business in Malaysia. The exhibition was very successful and busy, with customers and enquiries from, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh and Nepal. The disruption being caused to international trade, by Avian Influenza, was a major talking point. It was generally agreed that there is urgent need for governmental action, particularly within the Asia Pacific area, to progress the principal of regionalisation to alleviate the difficulties being faced by the industry.

Cherry Valley will be at the following Exhibitions:
